I explained in Trailer saga #1 — procurement why I need a trailer and how I arranged to get one. This post explains how it arrived and how I started building it. I’m also making some videos to go along with this process, so I’m linking those from these articles.
It arrived
This was awesome. At a time when it’s really difficult to get your hands on any folding trailer, I have got one. Once I assemble it.

There were a few issues with the trailer at first:
- It arrived as a collection of 3 boxes—one demolished, one burst open at one end, and one intact—together with a pile of parts that were originally in the broken boxes.
- I counted the parts and amazingly everything seems to be accounted for, although many of the bolts are not exactly as described in the manual.
- One terrible substitution was the shackle bolts that attach the leaf springs to the frame. These were different from the ones listed in the manual, and too small for the application. I picked up some more suitable ones at Bowlin Equipment in west Berkeley.
With everything there, it was time to start building the trailer. You assemble it in several stages, starting with the front frame section. I timed this, and it took just under 25 minutes to assemble that front section.
