The bikes

I’ve had and loved a number of bikes over the years, but my current heartthrob is my Ducati 959 Panigale. This is a gorgeous, awesome machine and I need to get it to the track.

My first motor vehicles were all motorcycles: a Benelli 125 that never ran, a Suzuki T500, a BMW R75/5, and a Norton Commando.

Besides the Panigale, I currently also own an awesome and venerable Triumph Daytona 955i and a little Kawasaki Ninja 300, which runs like an atomic sewing machine.

The place

I love the roads of northern California, but there are always issues—cops, deer, cars, gravel—going fast on the track is very much safer.

”Off-leash area for the Ducati“ is what I’ve started calling the track lately.

My local road racing track is Sears Point (nowadays called “Sonoma Raceway”). And just 2½ hours south from here is Laguna Seca, while 2½ hours to the north is Thunderhill.

The man

I grew up in Berkeley in the ‘60s. Yep, it was all that. Luckily for me, my delinquency involved computers so ultimately I was able to make a good living—once upon a time at Atari (as the world’s first consumer video game sound designer!) and now at big tech companies like TiVo and Google.

Now the kids are grown and gone, and I’ve grown older and fatter… Time to get out of the chair and onto the track!
